WHY CHOOSE AN IEC CONTRACTOR?

Whether you are in need of residential electrical work or need a commercial/industrial electrical contractor you have an important choice to make. Working with electricity is a highly skilled trade and requires a high degree of training and hands on experience. In order to complete an electrical apprenticeship program one must complete 576 hours of classroom training along with 8000 hours of on the job experience JUST to be qualified to test for a journeyman electrical license through the Texas Department of License and Regulation (which is REQUIRED) then it takes an additional two years as a licensed journeyman electrician and an additional 4,000 hours experience to apply and test for the master electrician license. IEC members not only take this training seriously, but our members go above and beyond to insure their employees are screened and trained in other areas as well to insure the job gets done right the first time, in the safest manner possible.  IEC is a professional business association where contractors pride themselves on quality work all at a fair price combined with high standards of integrity and ethical practices. IEC highly encourages you to visit our membership directory and see the professional difference yourself. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Here are some helpful tips to aid in hiring the right contractor for you:

  • Has a TDLR License number, business address and telephone number on all proposals

  • Complies with state and local codes and regulations and carries the proper business and workers’ compensation insurance

  • Licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (it’s the LAW)

  • Discloses the warranty? Is the entire job under warranty or only certain materials? Is the labor included in the guarantee? Who will honor the guarantee the dealer or the manufacturer? Of course, remember that a guarantee is only as good as the company that offers it.

  • Does that company provide liability and workers compensation insurance to protect you in the event of an accident on the job? Insist on a statement of coverage from the contractor. If the workers have subcontractors, do the subs have liability and workers compensation insurance?

REPORT UNLICENSED ACTIVITY ONLINE:

Our electricians arrive on the job with a smile on their face and spring in their step. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation’s (TDLR) new “Report the Activity of an Unlicensed Person” online link makes reporting unlicensed activity easier for Texas consumers and will enable

TDLR’s staff to fast-track the Department’s investigation.

TDLR licenses 28 industries, including: cosmetology, barbering, towing, air conditioning and electrical contractors, and dog and cat breeders.  In all, the Department licenses over 670,000 persons to work in Texas, but unlicensed people and companies performing services remains a serious problem across the state.

Unlicensed persons performing or offering to perform services regulated by TDLR are committing a violation of the law and putting Texas families at risk.
